Easy Bebop Jazz Lick Pat Martino style

In this Guitar Control video lesson Jon McLennan, will teach you a pretty basic bebop lick in the style of Pat Martino. This is a lick in the style of Pat Martino, one of my favorite jazz players, just a monster guitar player. And his right hand is just so articulate and so clean and so fast. If you haven’t
checked him out, you should go to Google right now, type his name in and check him out.

We’re playing over an E minor 7 chord. And here’s a nice voicing. I’ve got 2nd fret, 5th fret, 4th fret, 3rd fret, 2nd fret. B minor 7, and what we’re going to do is we’re going to start on the 10th fret here for the lick, 10, 9, 12, 11, 10, slide and then this is like a D triad.

One of the things that’s great about this is if you think about this D triad that I was just saying here, 10th fret, 11th fret, 12th fret, that’s all giving you these really nice color tones on top of your E minor. For instance, if I play an A minor voicing right there, incorporate some of those notes, you’d get an E minor 11. So already it gives you a jazz sound with the extended
harmony. You’re not just playing A minor, you’re getting all that color into the chord so when you solo with those kinds of lines, it definitely gives you a hip sound.

So one more time slowly. Try this with me. You don’t have to play the E at the end, the low E. You can just play this E. And then the chord. Be sure to subscribe on our You Tube Channel and we’ll see you in our next video lessons, thanks for watching.
