Freddie King – An Original & The most Gifted Electric Blues Guitarist

Blues guitarist Freddie King was born on Sept 3, 1934 and died December 28, 1976. He was born as Frederick Christian but started recording under the name Freddie King and his nickname “The Texas Cannonball”. He based his style around the Chicago and Texas styles with Texas blues obviously having a large influence on his playing. King maintained a 20 year recording career and was an established session guitarist with Federal Records. While mainly a blues guitarist, King was able to show versatility and was equally at home with a variety of genres including and especially Funk music. With guitarists like Stevie Ray and Jimmie Vaughan citing him as a major influence it’s not hard to tell why he belongs on the list of the 100 greatest blues guitarists!
