Frank “Son” Seals was born on August 13, 1942 in Osceola, Arkansas. At the age of 13, he began performing as a drummer with Robert Nighthawk and later as a blues guitarist, hugely influenced by Albert King. He formed his own band when he was 19, called “Son Seals and the Upsetters,” and performed at a local club in Osceola. While visiting his sister in Chicago in 1963, Seals performed briefly with Earl Hooker’s Roadmasters, and in 1966, he sat in on drums with Albert King’s band. After his father’s death in 1971, Seals moved to Chicago for good, where he was discovered and signed up by Alligator Records. This blues guitarist’s debut album, The Son Seals Blue Band, was released in 1973, followed by Midnight Son in 1976.
