There are two guitars happening here, the first one that is only one of the sides like the 70’s funk song. So you’ve got one guitar on the right side and another one on the left side, the first guitar is going to be a little bit like this, now let’s see what’s happening here, the most important thing before even trying to understand the rhythm and what stuff are we going to do, to know if we’re playing right.

Now once you get that incorporating it’s really easier for your chords. It starts with a little bit of a muted string and then we go to the 7th fret of the 5th string in a mute again. You play the 5th fret of the 5th string. Now you play again, we have these two notes and we’re going to go into the 3rd one which is the 5th, the 7th fret of the 6th string and then you’re going to play the 6th, the 5th of the 5th string again twice and then you come around in the 3rd time that you play and you’re going to hammer onto a 7th fret, so you’re going to 7, 5,  and you’re going to 7 over 6 and now you’re going to play the 5th of the 5th string three times and now the last time that you play you hammer-on so you could also instead of coming at all which the top player does he actually picks all the notes but sometimes he hammers it on but sometimes you can do it at the beginning especially you just play and no hammer-on and then you repeat that again.

Check this out it’s going to be entirely the same except that in the end I’m going to play it three times and you go straight up to this 1 to the 7, so 7, 5th then you go to a 7 on 6, to a 5, and 7, then you canb slide down at the end just like that and that’s basically for that part of the guitar.

For the other part which is the cord we have to start with an E minor 7, there we have the E minor 7 at the beginning for those who don’t know it’s finger on the 7th fret all across the strings and then you place your ring finger on the 9th fret of the 4th string and the middle finger on the 8th fret of the 2nd string now what you’re going to do is you play this a bunch of times like five times to be specific and you change.

Check this out you’re going to go into this D major, D minor but we’re not going to play the entire shape. So for this one we’re going to play the D major playing the 4th, 3rd, and 2nd string. For that you’re going to place your ring finger on the 12th fret of the 4th string, middle finger on the 11th fret of the 3rd string and then the index finger is going to cover the 10th fret of the 2nd and 1st string and play twice.

Check this technique that is happening right there, I’m playing and removing the pressure, that’s going to be a technique to first down and you let it ring. Now what’s happening after that part is you will do it five times for this one as well and then you’re going to play one more time but the way you want to see this is that you have a bunch of a fast rhythm which you play five times and then after you play the chord again but you want to see this as a different thing because this is going to be a sticatto because you want to remove the pressure.

Let’s go slow, now you could also play this higher you have to place your index finger on the 12th fret of this 4th 3rd and 2nd string. Now you’ll go into this pattern which is 16th fret of the 4th string 14th fret of the 3rd string and 15 of a 2nd and then you grab the same power, just move it down 2 frets and then the same thing but it’s a little bit complicated.

There you have it, this is a really cool song by Kool and I think this is going to expand your funkiness, your funky rhythms, and everything. Make sure to subscribe on our YouTube Channel and we’ll see you in our next video lessons, thanks for watching.
