How to Play Pretty Woman and Happy Birthday

Hi Friend,

A great rock tune that’s fun to play
is “Pretty Woman” by Roy Orbison.

It’s been covered famously by Van Halen…
And I used to play it with my band too.

As with a lot of songs, there’s a combination
of single-note riffs, and chord progressions.

The first riff:

repeats twice…

And then the second riff:

repeats 4 times…

Then, it goes into the lyrics and chord progressions.

A F#min
Pretty Woman, walkin down the street

A F#min
Pretty woman, kind I’d like to meet

Pretty woman

So basically you just have to learn your A chord,
your D chord, and your F#min chord to get started.

I don’t have time to go into the entire song in
this email, but I will probably include this tune
in a video later this year when I teach “Ultimate Beginner Volume 2”.

The keys to learning any song is first just learning all
the basic chords, being able to play them smoothly together
in a chord progression, and then finally adding the lyrics
on top of it and stringing together the different parts.

That’s what I teach in the Ultimate Beginner Guitar course,
and if you don’t already own a copy, I think it’s a good thing
for any guitarist to have because of the 75 song repertoire,
even if you’re not a beginner.

You can grab yours here:

Hey before I forget, just wanted to let you know it’s my
birthday tomorrow.

Happy Birthday to me!

This is actually another great simple song
Here are the chords:

Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday to dear Claude
Happy birthday to you

It’s amazing how impressed and delighted people are
when you sing happy birthday to them and play it on the guitar.

Actually, people are impressed and delighted when you
play pretty much anything on the guitar!

So here’s what I want you do right now:

Make a youtube video of you singing happy birthday to me.

Nah, just kidding 🙂

You don’t have to do that.

Actually, instead, the best thing you can do for today
is just keep enjoying my emails and also I wouldn’t mind
if you took a few mintues to check out my websites and DVDs
(see below).

Adios Amigo, and have a great day!
