Got a call yesterday from Jimmy Dillon,
who is probably our most seasoned
instructor here at Guitar Control.
He said he really liked my Mike Bloomfield
lesson (the one I posted yesterday on my blog)
and told me the tale of when he got to jam with him.
The story went something like this:
“There was this club that Mike was playing
at every friday. When I found out
about it, I was surprised. But that’s
how things were back in the 60s in
San Francisco. So I went to see him
play and Mike said ‘does anybody want
to jam’ and I was nervous but
I got up there. Years later I
met him again in a music shop and
he gave me the wisdom ‘if you can’t
dance to it or sing it, it aint worth
sh*t”…’ and many years later, after
he had passed away, I got to play
with the guys from Electric Flag
and actually played Mike’s sunburst
Thanks for the story , Jimmy!
I’m just amazed because it seems
like Jimmy has jammed with, worked with,
or shared a stage with just about EVERYONE.
From Santana to John Lee Hooker to
B.B. King, you name it.
With his deep experience, he’s really
