Thank you. Linda

Sadly, the blues is not about ‘luck.’ Fate, maybe…the blues is about living and dying and giving and trying! Thanks for some more rocking power-chord guitar stuff Claude!

I think you’re right it’s just semantics, because the way you just stated it, explains it even better. No foul, it’s just I personally got stuck at this point-and other “counting” points for the sake of understanding the “formal” aspect of rhythm (drums too), it’s easier “done” than “said” I guess! I really like that guitar too! You rock dude!

FORMAL RHYTHM IS A WHOLE ‘NOTHER BALL OF WAX. IT CAN BECOME COMPLEX. ESPECIALLY CONFUSING IS THE FACT THAT MUSIC CAN BE NOTATED WITH THE TRIPLET (SHUFFLE) BUILT INTO IT, SO A PAIR OF EIGHTH NOTES IS REALLY SOMETHING DIFFERENT. FOR THAT REASON I REALLY DONT LIKE NOTATIONS THAT USE THAT, BUT I CAN SEE WHY SOME PEOPLE DO…PROBLEM IS WHEN YOU HAVE SOMETHING COMPLEX , YOU GET LAYERS OF INFORMATION THAT HAVE TO BE DECODED. – CLAUDE

Why? It sounds like you’re not counting this “shuffle” 3/4-6/8 time correctly. Not to split hairs and maybe you’re hip to a different technique, but I’m more used to counting this rhythm 3/4 “one and ah, one and ah,as in 1-2-3/1-2-3” or 6/8 “one and ah two and ah” as in 1-2-3/4-5-6 and if anything can screw up a song or worse some poor newbie/beginners musical mind and not only be frustrating but debilitating, is erroneous or faulty instruction. Like I say I may be missing something in this lesson or may be misunderstanding it, but I’ve watched it three times and get the same feeling about it. I’ve always enjoyed your offerings and instructions and your taste in music seems impeccable and your instruction is usually spot on. However, this was slightly disappointing. BTW to clarify,in 6/8 this counting places the “one” first, but the “four” second and reduces it to a less cumbersome count with ONE(1) and(2) ah(3) TWO(4) and(5) ah(6) etc.

HI THERE, NOT SURE I FULLY UNDERSTAND YOUR COMMENT, BUT I THINK WE ARE JUST DEALING WITH SEMANTICS HERE. IF YOU WANT TO THINK OF THE RHYTHM IN A DIFFERENT WAY THAT MAKES MORE SENSE TO YOU, BY ALL MEANS DO THAT. THE EASIEST WAY I KNOW TO EXPLAIN THE SHUFFLE RHYTHM IS A TRIPLET COUNT OF 1-2-3 AND YOU TIE THE FIRST TWO COUNTS TOGETHER. – CLAUDE
