Blues guitarist Henry Charles Vestine, also known as “The Sunflower”, was born on December 25, 1944, in Takoma Park, Maryland. He was an American guitar player best known as a member of the band Canned Heat, which he was in from its start in 1966 to July 1969. In 1965, Vestine was hired by Frank Zappa for the original Mothers of Invention, but he only stayed with them for a few months and left before their debut album was recorded. Vestine, as a blues guitarist, was ranked 77th in Rolling Stone magazine list of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time” in 2003.
