forbidden riff-3

Introduction

How’s it going everybody? This is Darrin with GuitarControl.com bringing this video lesson and today we’re doing the last installment on the series I’ve done on riffs to get you kicked out of Guitar Center. So as usual there are tabs for these riffs so be sure to click on the link in the description to get those tabs and you can follow along. So let’s get close up and take a look.

Forbidden Riff-7 – Seven Nation Army

All right so the first one we have is the riff from Seven Nation Army. Now this is played on bass or he’s playing on a guitar with like an octave pedal or something like that, but you can still play it and it’s recognizable and obnoxious. So we start off we’re on the seventh fret and this is all on the A string; so we play seven and then seven again and we slide to ten and this first one is a dotted quarter note so it’s like one two, and then on the and of two we hit the seven and slide to ten… And then after we slide to ten then we come back to seven to five to three and then two… just like that.

Forbidden Riff-8 – Back In Black

All right so the next we’re going to look at is the main riff from Back In Black. So we start off with an E5; so I’m just using my first finger to barre the second fret of the D string and then the low E string is open and this is a quarter note and is beat one and then on the downbeat of two we actually have a eighth note rest and then we switch to D and we have three strums of that, two sixteenth notes and a quarter, and then there’s another rest. Then we switch to an A chord and do the same thing and that’s like the first part of it… Okay so after we hit that last D, that’s on the quarter note to the second measure and then we have a quarter note rest, a 16th note rest and then we’ve got this little riff; so third fret of the high E string to the high E string open and then we go to the B string and do the same thing and then we go to the G string and we’re on the second fret and we’re going to pick that and do a full bend and release and then pull off to the open string… and then it just starts over again. Then we have a different fill this time; so second fret of the A string and then to the fourth fret of the low E, back to the A string, back to the E string fifth fret, back to the A string, back to the low E sixth fret and then back to the A twice…

Forbidden Riff-9 – Wonderwall

All right next we have one that is really high up on the list, super obnoxious to play in the music store, it’s Wonderwall. Now to be in the same key you’d need a capo this at the second fret; I don’t have my capo handy, I forgot to grab it, but it doesn’t matter, you can still play it without the capo, chances are when you go into Guitar Center you’re not going to have a capo that you can use to do it. So this is actually pretty easy and first thing we’re doing is going to play E minor seven (Em7), but you want to use your first and second finger; so first finger on the second fret of the A string and second finger on the second fret of the D string and then you’re gonna take your third finger and put it on the third fret of the B string and your fourth finger on the third fret of the high E string and those two fingers are going to stay there the whole time. So the strum for it’s like… Now on the last part it just hits the open D and G string and that’s kind of the transition chord for each time there’s a chord change because it goes from this Em7 to a G. So we just keep our first finger where it is and move our second finger from the second fret of the D string to the third fret of the low E, but the third and fourth fingers again stay where they are… Then we’re going to switch to a D suspended four (Dsus4); so we just move our first and second finger down like we’re playing a D again with our third and fourth finger staying the same place… open D and G string and now to A7 suspended four (A7sus4). So we’re just going to put our first finger onto the second front of the D string, second finger onto the second fret of the G string and then it just starts over again. So from there that transition from there is easy just move your first and second finger down a set of strings…

Forbidden Riff-10 – Stairway To Heaven

All right so now we’ve made it to the end, this is number 10, this is the most number one not supposed to play riff in Guitar Center or whatever music store you go to and of course I am talking about Stairway To Heaven. So for this I’m going to be playing it fingerstyle, but you know if you don’t know how to do finger picking, you can play it with a guitar pick sort of; you might have to omit some of the things, but that’s kind of the fun about this one, if you can’t play it really well or if you can play well and you pretend like you can’t play it well and it’s really cringy to the to the store employees.

So we start off here we just got this a minor triad shape here; so my first finger is barring the fifth fret of the high E, B and G strings and then my third finger is on the seventh fret of the D string and we’re just going to play that. So I’m just starting my thumb is playing the D string, my first finger is playing the G string, my second finger playing the B and my third is playing the high E string. Now we’re going to go to our next chord, so keep your first finger where it is and gonna take your third finger off and put your middle finger on the sixth fret of the D string and your pinky onto the seventh fret of the high E string and now we’re gonna play D and the high E strings together, followed by the B, G and then the high E again, so that’s like the first measure… Okay now for our next chord we’re going to move our pinky up one fret, so now it’s on the eighth fret and take our middle finger off and now we’re going to move our finger so we’re barring starting on the D string at the fifth fret; so D, G, B and high E, same picking pattern… Okay now we’ve got a D over F sharp (D/F#). So we’re going to come down here, it’s D, but we’re going to do the F sharp here; so how I like to play it is I just barre my first finger at the second fret of the G, B and high E strings and then put my middle finger on the third fret of the B string and then my third finger on the fourth fret of the D string… And then we’ve got F major seven (FM7)… so third fret of the D string with my third finger, second fret of the G string with my second finger, first fret of the B string with my first finger and then the high E string is open. So here we’ve got D and E together, B, G, B, E, B and G… Then we have a G, so we’re basically just getting the third fret of the low E and then the D, G and B strings open to A minor… Then we’ve got this open A string and then we do a slide from nowhere to the eighth fret to the seventh fret and then it just starts over. So when I do that is I hit the string open and then I just start at the third fret and pick and slide together to seven and then just starts over again…

Make It Even Funnier

All right so like I’ve kind of said in the past is that if you really want to troll and be kind of funny then you do stuff like make the guitar a little bit out of tune or like stretch some of these chords and just kind of play it a little bit wrong. One of my private students did that. He played Sweet Child O Mine and he just changed some of the notes so it was… something like that, it was really funny.

Conclusion

All right so there you have it, the last installment of the forbidden riffs to play at Guitar Center. forbidden riff-2

Introduction

How’s it going everybody? This is Darrin with GuitarControl.com bringing you this video lesson. Today we have part two of the series on ten riffs that are banned and that’ll get you kicked out of Guitar Center or your local guitar shop. So be sure to click on the link in the description for the tabs and let’s get close up and take a look at what we got today.

Forbidden Riff-4 – Iron Man

All right, so the first one to look at here is a riff from Iron Man. Now kind of depending upon what guitar it is that you’re playing you may not be able to play this intro part, but it’s incredibly obnoxious to play this part in the store. So if you’re playing guitar you like this without a tremolo system this is pretty easy to do; I mean I guess you could actually just do it with the whammy bar, but to make it more authentic you want to do it this way and it’s just also kind of just more obnoxious. So what you’re going to do is reach back here behind the nut on your low E string and we’re going to just push that down so we’re actually tightening the string and then we’re going to hit our low E string open and then slowly release like this… then we’re going to do it again… it actually does it a third time… And now we’re going to go into the riff that follows that, the main riff. So what I’m doing here is a B5; so I’m on the seventh fret of the low E string with my first finger and the ninth fret of the A string with my third. Then we’re gonna go to D5; so we’re gonna come up to the A and D string at the fifth and seventh fret… slide up E5 and then we’re going to come all the way up here to the 10th fret. So I’m on the 10th fret of the A string, on the 12th fret on the B string and we’re going to hit that and then slide down a half step and then back up, so back down to D5 to E5 and that’s where it ends…

Forbidden Riff-5 – Enter Sandman

All right so then the next we’re going to look at is the main opening riff from Enter Sandman. So for this I’ve got my third finger on the seventh fret of the A string and my first finger on the fifth fret of the D string and we’re going to play the low E string open and then follow that with the A to the D string. So this first one is coming in on the and of four and then it’s tied to the downbeat; so it’s like a quarter note and then two eighth notes… Then keeping that shape right there just take your middle finger and reach up and grab the sixth fret of the low E string and then down to the fifth fret with your first finger and then put your first finger back up here because it just basically starts over again. So after you do that you follow that with the A string and then it starts over right there…

Forbidden Riff-6 – Sweet Child O Mine

All right and then the last one we’ll look at is the main riff from Sweet Child O Mine and this one’s up pretty high on the list of things that are frowned upon to play and this is one of the more difficult ones to play in this list. So I’m up here on the 12th fret of the D string with my first finger and then from there it goes to the 15th fret of the B string; so I just do this with my first and third and second finger and then from there we go to the 14th fret of the G string to the 12th fret… so that’s the first part of it. Then we go to the 15th fret on the high E string to the 14th fret on the G string… to the 14th fret on the high E string and back to the 14th fret of the G string and I just like to keep my first finger over here… and that’s the riff right there. So it does two that’s one measure long because it’s one and two and three and four and, so you do two measures of that. Then the first note changes from the 12th fret of the D string to the 14th fret; so now I’m just going to use my second finger and everything else is the same… Then the first note changes to 12th fret on the G string and everything else stays the same and then back to the 12th fret on the D string. So it starts with two measures based on this on D and then it ends with it too; so when it starts over again you’re actually playing two measures of it at the end and the two measures of it at the beginning…

Conclusion

All right, so there you have it, three more riffs that will get kicked out of Guitar Center for playing. So if you like this lesson be sure to give me a thumbs up and leave a comment down below if you have any questions about this other guitar related topics. forbidden riffs

Introduction

Hey everybody how’s it going? This is Darrin with GuitarControl.com bringing you this video lesson. Today is part one of a series that I’m going to be doing on riffs to play to get kicked out of Guitar Center. So we all do it, we all go into Guitar Center or the local music store, pick up a guitar and just start playing. So I’ve compiled a list of riffs that will get you kicked out of Guitar Center and we’re going to go over those riffs. So be sure to click the link in the description for the tabs and let’s get started.

Forbidden Riff-1 – Smoke On The Water

All right so the first one we’re going to look at is the riff from Smoke On The Water and this one’s fairly easy, you may already know it, this is one of the first riffs that lots and lots of people learn. So we’re going to be playing it just on the D and G string, so just on your center strings here. We start off with playing it open and then we’re going to go to the third fret on both strings; so we’re playing the both strings and tandem at the same frets. So we have open, then to the third fret, then to the fifth fret, then open, three, six, five, open, three, five, three and open. So that’s a riff that is for sure to get you kicked out of Guitar Center.

Forbidden Riff-2 – Smells Like Teen Spirit

All right so the next one we have is Smells Like Teen Spirit. Now I believe on this that they are tuned down a half step, possibly a whole step, but I’m just going to show you how to play it in standard tuning because more than likely you wouldn’t be changing the tuning on a guitar that you just pick up off the shelf in a music store, but then maybe you will. This one is just made up of just the fifth power chords and the first one we’ve got is F5; so my first finger is on the first fret of the low E string, third finger is on the third fret of the A string. We start this off we’ve got three strums of that, so it’s a eighth note, then it’s a dotted eighth, a sixteenth note and then another dotted eighth note; so you can think of it as like… so long, short, long and then we follow that with three muted strums. So I’m just going to take my fingers and lay them like this and then just do the strum. Then we move to B flat five (Bb5); so we’re just going to take that shape and move it straight up so now we’re on the first fret of the A string and the third fret of the D string and we’ve got two strums and a mute and then just those strings open. Then we come back to the low E and A string at the fourth fret and the sixth fret and we have the same strum, but this time with the mutes it’s one two three four. Then we’re going to move that shape straight up to the A and D string, still at the fourth and sixth fret, and we’ve got three and then two mutes and then it basically just starts over again.

Forbidden Riff-3 – Sweet Home Alabama

All right then we’ve got Sweet Home Alabama and what more riff could be possibly more annoying for a guitar store employee to hear over and over and over again than Sweet Home Alabama? So we start off we just got a regular D chord and we’re going to hit the D string twice and then follow that with the B and then G string; so it’s D string twice, B string, G string, D string and then we’re gonna go to a C add nine (Cadd9). So just leave your third finger where it is here for the D and then move your first finger the second fret of the D string and your second finger to the third fret of the A string and then we’re going to pick the A string and then just release your pressure so you just kind of get that… you can do it with the open string, but I kind of like the mute, and then follow that with the B, G and D string and that’s like the first measure. Then move your first and second finger from the D and A string to the A and low E string. So now we’re doing a G we’re gonna do that same… we did with the Cadd9, but now it’s on the low E and then we just hit the D and G string open and then it’s got this little riff. So we start up and just keep your third finger still planted here on the third fret of the B string, makes this easier,

and we’re gonna hit the A string open and do a hammer-on to the second fret then the D string open, hammer-on to the second fret, pull back off and then follow that with the third fret of the A string and then the second fret of the G string with a pick and pull-off. Then starting on the third measure it’s like the beginning again with the D, Cadd9 and G. Now for the second riff you can take your third finger off, we’re just gonna go to the second fret of the G string, first finger pick and pull and then pick and then play the open string again and then go to the fourth fret D string, open and then to the fifth fret of the G string with a full step bend and then it just starts over again.

Make Them Funnier

All right so one of the things that makes this even kind of funnier to do in the music store if you kind of want to go in there and just kind of troll them is to play these riffs, but not play them quite right. A sequence like where you’re gonna have one or two notes that are flat or just have the timing wrong. So if you’re playing Smoke On The Water you could play it kind of sloppy or with the wrong timing. Stuff like that is actually kind of funny.

Conclusion

Alright so there you have it… the first installment of 10 riffs that will get you kicked out of Guitar Center. So if you like this lesson be sure to give me a thumbs up and leave a comment down below if you have any questions about this or other guitar related topics. If you’ve not already done so please subscribe to the channel and hit that notification bell so you don’t miss any of the content that we upload throughout the week. Well that is all I have for you today. Thanks for watching and have a great day.
