Hi Dave,
I agree with you but there are 7 modes unless you’re not including the Ionian which is the first and is the major scale.

I’ve been playing avidly for 22 years. Modes and scales aren’t the same thing. So you are wrong by stating the modes are the most important scales. I can play them on the neck anywhere as well. I can also transition from pentatonic to minor to Phrygian and all sorts of tricks you learn over the years . This isn’t a pissing contest.

Penta meaning 5 and tonic tones or notes. Secondly Dorian is a mode of the western music major scale which contains 7 notes. These are recommended as far as I can tell because you should have a good musical vocabulary. It’s not about covering songs it’s about being a musician. When you appreciate great musicianship it doesn’t matter if the music isn’t commercially successful.

Minor Pentatonic isn’t a scale. Most scales have 7 degrees or notes. The 6 most important scales would be knowing the 6 modes in side and out. I can play all of them 4 notes per string starting anywhere on the neck. Sure I have been playing and teaching longer than most of you have been alive but knowing the modes and how they all intertwine YOU will command/know the finger board. Knowing the 6 that Claude points out can be important but I don’t think they are the 6 most important. Sorry Claude. All musicians don’t agree on everything

Thx
