Blink 182 Riff-1 – Dammit

All right, so first Blink 182 riff we’re going to look at the riff for Dammit. So starting off we’re on the third fret of the A string with your third finger and we’re going to pick that and this is ↓a quarter note and then we’re going to pick it again as an eighth note on the downbeat of two, so it’s like one two and then on the and of two we hit the open D string and it’s on the and of two, but it’s tied to the downbeat of three and then on the and of three we hit the D string open again and then for beat four as a quarter note on second fret of the D string… So that’s like the timing throughout all of this and that’s the first measure. All right so for the second measure it’s the same thing it’s just the first two notes instead of being on the third fret of the A string they’re on the third fret of the low E, but it’s still the same timing and then the notes on the D string are the same. Then starting on measure three we just go to the open A string, D string stays the same… And then finally on the fourth measure the first fret of the low E stringand now we’ve got a little bit of a change so then we go to the second fret of the D string so this is like one two and we hit this on the and of two and it rings out for the downbeat of three and then on the and of three we hit it again and then the D string open for beat four as a quarter note. So the whole riff…

Blink 182 Riff-2 – Down

All right, the next Blink 182 riff we’re going to look at a riff from the song Down. Now this here is pretty easy, much the same thing we’re we’re not going to be really doing a whole lot with our left hand other than some muting technique. So we’re starting off around the seventh fret of the low E string with your first finger and the ninth fret of the D string with your third finger; now you want to let your first finger kind of droop so that way it’s coming in contact with the A string and keeping it quiet so that way when you strum this you only hear the two notes and then the A string is muted and the G, B and high E strings are muted as well… So we hit this one, two and three, and then on the downbeat of three we just mute and all I do is just take my first finger and just lift it up I’m just letting it basically touch across the string so we get that mute sound; one, two and, three, and on the and of three we just hit the open E and A string together and then for beat four quarter note and it’s just back onto the to those octaves again… So when we hit that on four that’s like where the riff is starting over again so then on the second measure one and, two and, three and, four and…

Blink 182 Riff-3 – Adam’s Song

All right and then the last Blink 182 riff we’re going to look at is the riff from Adam’s Song. So for this one here we’re going to put your first finger on the second fret of the A string and your third finger on the fourth fret of the D string and we’re going to pick this starting on the A to D; so one and, and then on the downbeat of two it’s just the open D string one and two three four one and two and then the same thing for three and four. So now starting on the second measure we have the same thing, the only thing that changes now is that our first note instead of being the second fret of the A string it’s just the A string open, same timing. Then on the third measure the bass note moves to the third fret of the low E string, but it still stays the same on the D string. And then the last measure open E string, back to the third fret and then it just starts over again…
