Learning the bass rhythms for your favorite songs may be harder than you think! So what about
The Best Bass Guitar Songs for Newbies?
How many times have you listened to a song and thought,
“Oh, that should be easy to play”, but when you look up the tabs/chord sheets, it turns out to be
MUCH harder? I know I’ve done that a lot!
Thankfully, there are a few songs that are fairly easy to new bassists to play. These bass guitar songs may involve a few complex picking or fingering patterns, but once you get the hang of them, they’re fairly easy to play.
Bonus: They’re actually fun to play, and you can use them to show off a bit!
Here are the best bass guitar songs for newbies:
Come Together by The Beatles — Who hasn’t heard and loved this song? There are two bass lines for the song: one involving a slide and some quick fingering, and the other involving a simple repetition of the same notes as the guitar is playing.
It looks tough, but a few hours of practice will have you playing along with the song.

Seven Nation Army by White Snakes — We’ve all heard this song, and it’s one heck of a great one! It’s also wonderfully easy to play on the bass. The song (at least the part you’ll learn to play) repeats the same six notes over and over, with only a simple variation every fourth time. You can learn it fairly quickly (how long can it take to learn six notes?), and it will be the perfect song to show off your new bass skills.
Can’t Touch This by MC Hammer — The first time you listen to this song, you may think the walking bass line is a challenge. Listen to it a few more times, and you’ll realize the song repeats the same chords and notes over again.
It will take a bit of practice to get that blues/rock rhythm just right, but once you do, you can use it to play Rick James’ “Super Freak” as well. Two songs for the price of one!
Get started with these three easy bass guitar songs, and you’ll have something to show for your efforts within a few hours!
