How’s it going. My name is John McClennan
and I’m here with guitarcontrol.com,
bringing you this lesson. Today is just a
simple tip on how to tune your guitar to drop D.
Normally a guitar, in standard tuning,
is E, A, D, G, B, E. All we’re going to
do is we’re going to take that low E
string and we’re going to drop it a
whole step, meaning two frets lower.
Instead of an E it’s going to become a D.
Drop D. That’s why they call it drop D.
Take this low string and what I do is I
pluck the D string, which would be the
4th string as a point of reference.
Too far. There you have it. Right in tune.
The great thing about this, too now, is
you can play your D chord and you can
include the low 6 string. So a real fat tone.
Lots of tunes, whether they’re acoustic
songs or hard rock tunes, like the Foo Fighters…
