Hey, how’s it going this is John McLennan with Guitar Control, I’m going to show you How to Play “Green Onions” by Booker T & The M G ‘s. What we’re looking at today is just a real easy way of walking a little bass part through the blues. This riff is from the song “Green Onions” which was Booker Talk & The M.G‘s. One of the things that I just love about this track is it grooves so hard. I just hear that ride symbol and it’s just so — it makes me feel so good. It’s a great tune to practice with and work on your feel.
A real easy part here. What we’re going to do is we’re going to start at the 1st fret, F, and you’re going to play down, down, up, all in the same note, one, two and then you play the 4th fret, A flat, and then the 1st fret, B flat. So it’s like this. That’s all you do for the one chord. And then you move up one string, this time starting on B flat, F string, 1st fret. Then back home. Finally, so what that is here, 3-3-3-6-3. And you’re back at the top again and you start all over.
Again, it’s the 12 barre blues. You just repeat it. When you get to the end, you go back to the top. Practice that, work on your muting, listen to that ride cymbal and play along with the track. One, two, and three, four, one, two, and three, four. Check out some Steve Cropper there.
