How to Play An Upbeat Samba Groove Pattern on Electric Guitar

Up Beat Samba Groove Pattern -- Rhythm Guitar Lesson

How’s it going, guys?
This is John McClennan
and I’m here with guitarcontrol.com,
bringing you this video lesson.
What I want to show you today is an
upbeat sort of samba pattern, one of
the ways I like to play it on electric here.

The chord changes that I’m going through
here are from the song “Spain”
and you start on a G major 7,
and I’m just going to show you
on this first chord what I’m doing.
My sort of motor for this song, for
the samba is like 16th notes, one-e-and-a,
two-e-and-a; one-e-and-a, two-e-and-a.
Just 16th notes.

What I’m doing is I’m playing the bass
note with my thumb and then what I’m doing
is sort of just dragging my fingers
on the strings.
