Hybrid Picking Technique On A Pentatonic Scale – Made Easy with Video

Hi, I’m Morgan Wick with Guitar Control, I’ve got a cool hybrid picking lick to show you guys, so let’s take a closer look at it so this lick comes from the E minor pentatonic scale way up at the 12th fret.

We’ll be stretching out so it’s not a basic box shape we’re kind of at grabbing some notes from the next shape up. We’re going to start on the 17th fret of the high E-string with a pick stroke I’m going to pull off to the 12th fret I’m going to skip the B-string and go to the 14th fret of the G-string then we’re jumping back up to the highest note, we’ll be using a hybrid pick with your middle finger that’s what hybrid picking is doing the pick and the fingers so and back to the 14th fret and up to the 12th fret on the high string with another hybrid pick back to the 14th fret pull off to the 12th fret so here’s your 8th note pattern cool shape doesn’t really sound like a pentatonic scale at all it’s nice and the intervals make it a little bit different and what’s really cool about it too is there’s this nice pedal tone in there we keep going back to that same go sounds cool sounds cool slow or fast which is nice about this lick so what we’re going to take it around and move it down to the next set of strings, kind of doing the exact same thing just keep it within the scale and again and on the 14th fret of the E-string.

Let me play a little bit faster for you one time so there’s the lick for you guys you can check out the tabs below and the tabs I put in the fingerings too for the hybrid picking so you know exactly which pic strokes to use for that and which fingers to use if you like this idea try it out with some other licks get your fingers involved in there you can get a little bit of speed ad in there and get some different sounds that you wouldn’t get with just using the pic if you liked this video remember to subscribe on our You Tube Channel and we’ll see you in our next video lessons, thanks for watching.
