About Megadeth and Dave Mustaine
Megadeth is an American Thrash Metal band formed in Los Angles in 1983 by guitarist/vocalist Dave Mustaine and bassist David Ellefson. The band is part of the Big Four of Thrash along with Metallica, Slayer and Anthrax. The band was formed shortly after Mustaine was dismissed from Metallica before the release of their debut album “Kill Em’ All”.
Studio Releases
The Band released their first album in 1985 titled “Killing Is My Business and Business Is Good on the independent label Combat Records. This release caught the attention of major label Capitol Records and the band signed with them and released their first major label release “Peace Sells But Who’s Buying”. The band has gone on to release a number of multi-platinum albums including; Rust In Peace and Countdown To Extinction. In total six of their 15 studio albums have gone platinum in the US. The band has been nominated for 12 Grammy Awards and received its first Grammy Award in 2017 for the song Dystopia in the Best Metal Performance category.
Controversy
The Band has received controversy for its music and lyrical content about subjects such as religion, government and death; that include album bans and canceled concerts. MTV refused to play two of the band’s music videos that the network considered to condone suicide. Mustaine has had many bouts with substance abuse over the years and has become a born again Christian after attending an AA meeting. Mustaine is very out spoken about politics and covered the 1992 Democratic National Convention for MTV.
