Introduction
Hey guys Claude Johnson here from GuitarControl.com and I’ve got a really awesome lesson for you today. It’s a super simple song that’s also one of the best songs, it’s a classic, it’s Free Bird. You might have heard of it, Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd and what’s cool about this song is it’s the same chords over and over. So some of these chords are the you know old basic beginner chords that you started with and there’s a couple of new chords; so let me just show you the chords one by one for How to Play Freebird by Lynyrd Skynyrd on Guitar.
Freebird Chords
So for How to Play Freebird by Lynyrd Skynyrd on Guitar we got G then we have D slash f-sharp (D/F#). Now I did another video previously on slash chords; so what that means is if you see a chord written like D and then a slash F sharp (F#) it means it’s just a D chord with the F sharp in the bass. So if you know your basic D chord, just hook your thumb around to the second fret on the low E string and then I would just play up to here, to the B string, you don’t necessarily hit that… All right so yeah G, D/F#, E minor and then you have F. So for this chord you have your ring finger on the third fret D string, middle finger on the second fret of the G string; I’ll say that again middle finger on the second fret G string. And then your first finger bars the first fret of both the B string and the high E string, which is really part of this barre chord, but it’s easier to finger. So this is a great little shape to know, if you play it here it’s G… and here it’s A… but we’re doing here to the lowest position, that’s your F. Okay then you have C and then D. So when you strum all them together… All right so once again; G, D/F#, E minor, F, C and D and you can actually check the link in the video description to get that drawn out right now for you.
