How’s it going, guys? This is John McClennan
and I’m here with guitarcontrol.com,
and I want to show you some great jazz voicings
here on acoustic and show you some new ways maybe
you haven’t played chords this way before.
So check out this first chord.
It’s a G minor 7. And this is a very piano
style voicing. And so I have the 6th, 7th,
8th, 10th, and again, be sure to click the
link below for the tab and it will have this
laid out pretty clearly.
But G minor 7 to a G flat minor 7. And what’s
happening here is the melody is going up and
the bass is going down. So just some neat devices,
contrary motion. And then the second chord
that I’m playing here is 9, 7, 9, 7 and
I’m moving to an F minor 9. Again,
the bass is going down and the melody
is going up. Check it out.
This chord is 8, 6, 8, 8 and then into an E7,
again, contrary motion: 7, 6, 7, 9.
And finally resolving to an E major 9 flat 5 chord.
Nice voicing. So I’ve got the 6th, 5th, 7th,
6th and then 5th barring there to get the flat 5 on top.
So here’s the whole progression one more time.
Really nice stuff, again, contrary motion,
bass going down, notes on top going up.
