How to Play Rhythm Blues In Danny Gatton Style

Hey, how’s it going this is Jon Mclennan with Guitar Control, for this next example of the 12 bar blues we’re going to look at another rhythm style and this is in the style of Danny Gatton.

So we’re in the key of E and these are some real cool voicing to check out you’ve got just a stock E chord 2 to 1 and then you move up to 4 to 2 and then I play what looks like a D triad here 5th fret fourth fret second fret and then I walk back down those same chords so it sounds like this now I’m using a little bit of a hammer-on here and that’s where I play the chord which is actually an E minor and I immediately hammer my first finger down on the 1st fret of the 3rd string real bluesy sound.

Now instead of just staying on a one chord like, let’s move up to a 0-2-2-2, so what I’m doing here is I’m playing just straight A and then I move to what it looks like almost like an A minor but shifted up 4th fret, 4th fret, 3rd fret, and then 5-6-5, and sometimes I might play in a seven or I’ll just play in a straight A, you know either one works remember in the blues all these chords are dominant 7, E7, A7, B7, back to the 1st riff, so let’s do those two sequences together.
