Omar Kent Dykes is an American blues guitarist and singer from McComb Mississippi. He formed the band Omar & the Howlers in 1973, and has also had a successful career as a solo artist, regularly touring European countries. His solo albums include Blues Bag and Muddy Springs Road. Dykes started playing guitar when he was 7 years old, and joined his first band at age 12. In his 20s, he formed Omar & the Howlers and moved to Austin, Texas. After blues guitarist Dykes signed a recording contract with Columbia in 1987, Omar & the Howlers released many successful albums for Columbia, Provogue, and Ruf Records.
