Ascending Pentatonic Lick

All right, so this fun and easy two string ascending pentatonic lick . is in A minor, but we’re actually starting on D. So we’re starting here on the third fret of the B string with your first finger and I’m going to pick that and then do a hammer-on to the fifth fret; now you could alternate pick the whole thing if you want, I just kind of like the way it sounds with the with the hammer-on’s. So I’m going to pick that and then do a hammer-on to the fifth fret and then I’m gonna go to the high E string and do the same thing. So we’ve got a whole step. Now we’re going to shift up and we’re going to start on the second note, so we’re going to start on the fifth fret of the B string, but this time we’re going to go a step and a half so we’re going to pick the fifth fret and hammer to the eighth fret and then do the same thing on the high E string… Now we’re going to start on that second note again of this so each pairing of this, we just start on the note that we left off on. So we’re going to start here on the eighth fret and now we’re going to go back to only going a whole step, so eighth fret to the tenth fret and then the same thing on the high E string here. So that’s our pattern. We’re going a whole step then a step and a half then a whole step then a step and a half then a whole step and then finally a step and a half… And then we’re gonna go to the note here, but then we’re just going to come back here to end because if we hit that note would actually be out of key. I would have to change the pattern a little bit, so we want to try to keep this fun and easy two string ascending pentatonic lick more simple…

Now you could throw in other stuff like these little, you know…  In recent series I’ve done on this kind of stuff and I’m hoping that this will be able to help you just you know to see where all these places that these different patterns overlap each other and that is really makes it easy because then you can choose other notes that are nearby that might be outside of pentatonic and they could technically be out of key, but they can still sound really good as a passing tone. All right so this fun and easy two string ascending pentatonic lick can be transposed into different Keys just by moving the sequence. So if we moved it up a whole step and started here… you can move it around basically wherever you want. You’re just limited by, you know, how many frets and how awkward it is. So this is just a thing that could be thrown in the middle with some other kind of licks you’d have this like leading up to something. Or maybe this is like the ending, like you have this as like the big dramatic climb at the end of the solo. There’s lots of different things that you could do with this fun and easy two string ascending pentatonic lick.

Conclusion
