For all those who wants to learn how to write great songs, just click the link below:

In this Guitar Control video lesson, we’re going to try something a little bit experimental here, all controversial. When I was talking virtual earlier and we’re saying how about if we just throw out an idea and write us on the spot we’re talking about song right let’s prove we can do it. Also I’ll throw at you I didn’t with means we’ll see what happened but was yeah so here’s what we’re trying to capture you’re in love and things are going well in but it’s not over but you’re not sure so you wanted to come back which is just song that I wrote but I’m curious how you’re going to interpret that okay kind of like will you come back to those kisses in won’t you stay with something to because I want to kind of decode where might my brain goes that’s what we tried to use instructional movies, talk about the unconscious process that we don’t really think about except and turn on the cameras there so first of all when you gave me the topic that you just gave me as sad as you thought I got to go to the saddest chord, I know just a minor and I’m going to take an even make it A minor sus 2 also the tempo slower the tempo the satiric feel of a dirge.

Now go back to where we are now we’re talking about a more uplifting vibe so automatically my brain sticking ok I want to be in here you know I want to be major chords maybe some seven because I think I 7 has a certain up feel it’s a little more exciting so you know what about you I mean you can probably do that to wear under certain scale certain chords and ranges if you want to capture certain feels, well if you know a major chord by nature isn’t up thing it’s a positive kind of in a major 7th chord which actually played, another thing you’ll hear this modern acoustic stuff a lot you haven’t is mio salsa now this is also reminiscent of the song recently. I can’t remember who does this but I’m going to walk you walk right out of my life you’re going to walk my hat now it’s kind of an upbeat song but it’s got lyrics that are very biting and cutting why don’t you walk that those pretty legs right out of my life you know and we also talked about how about a happy song with terribly sad lyrics so much where my mind went when we said let’s do something happy let’s do the music up and let’s do the lyrics not happy you know things aren’t ok but we got that so I’m just going to D major 7 first.

Hey. I’m Jimmy Dillon and welcome to the Acoustic Café.
We’re going to be talking about songwriting and acoustic
guitar and how they relate to each other.

Before we get started I wanted to tell you a little bit
about where I come from, musically and where I was born
and what my influences were. I was born in Los Angeles,
California in the ‘50s, what I consider the golden age
of rock and roll. So it was getting into my bones at a
very young age.

I remember picking-up an Elvis record and, you know,
dancing around the house and pretending I was playing
guitar like this. Of course I was about six years old,
seven years old, at the time.

And then what happened was, you know, I was raised on radio,
so being raised on radio in the ‘50s was such a cool time to
come up because it was the first time we’d all heard music
like this, you know, it was called rock and roll. Up until
then it had been mostly stuff like Sinatra and Big Band stuff,
and then into the early rock and roll like Little Richard
and Elvis and Gene Vincent and all that good stuff.

But by the time I came of age and I realized I wanted to
play guitar, it was time to – it was the ‘60s. So I’m really
a child of the ‘60s in terms of my formative years on
playing guitar.

So that little intro I did for you, I was doing a little
kind of a little Bob Dylan. You can’t really mention the
‘60s and you can’t really mention songwriting and acoustic
guitars specifically, without mentioning the giants that
were all over the place, on the radio and influencing us
all in social ways and other ways.

We’re going to talk about songwriting in this product.
We’re going to talk about lyrics; we’re going to talk
about inspiration. I’m going to tell you how it strikes
me and how I work with inspiration and how I channel it
through my acoustic guitar, primarily – a little bit of
piano as well.

I think this particular instrument is the consummate instrument
for the last really 50, 60, more, 100 years, and there’s a reason
for that. I was talking to one of the guys here at the studio
and, you know, guitar, especially acoustic guitar you can take
it with you; it goes up against your body; you play it; you
feel it, the vibration of the strings, and it’s a great writing
tool. You can write anywhere you are. It’s a mobile instrument;
it travels with you. That’s really cool.

I wanted to tell you a little bit about my influences growing up.
By the time I was playing acoustic guitar I was living in Michigan
near Chicago, so I had some blues influence. I was hearing guys
from Chicago like Howlin Wolf and Muddy Waters and of course the
electric stuff as well. But primarily we’re talking about acoustic
stuff here. So, John Lee Hooker, who I was fortunate enough to do
a duet with, an acoustic duet, that was my early influence as well
as simultaneously the Beatles, the Stones, Traffic, Stevie Windwood,
all the great British acoustic rock guys.

So if we’re talking about acoustic song writing, you can’t leave-out
the Beatles, you can’t leave-out Bob Dylan and guys like Leonard Collin
who have been phenomenal and influenced all of us.

Who’s your favorite musical influences? Post your comment
