In this Guitar Control video lesson, I want to talk a little bit about what I call Drone Soloing. That’s when you hit a note on the guitar or sometimes the keyboard player will hold it down, it’s like a stagnant note that just hums-out.

In this demonstration we’re going to be in the key of E and you can kind of play a lot of major licks and stuff over it, get like an Arabic kind of sound,
almost like a Derek Trucks sort of thing doing this sort of thing. So I’m going to demonstrate what I call drone soloing.

It’s like a stagnant note that rings-out and you can get all these major kind of essences over it, kind of go wherever you want to, really, almost anywhere on the neck works. And when there’s a note that does not work you can really hear it; it will stand-out. So you know, oh, I don’t want to play that note.

A couple of good exercises that can get you ready for that would be something like this. This is kind of a major run that I like to do. It’s 1, 2, 3, 5, and I’ll be doing that in a lot of different demonstrations throughout. But this is kind of how I use it in drone soloing.
