How To Play String Skipping Lick With Sweep Picking

Hey everyone. This is Darrin Goodman from guitarcontrol.com
bringing you this video lesson today. Today I want to show
you a little lick that combines some three string sweeping
arpeggios with some string skipping and a sweeping arpeggio
that goes across all six strings. Be sure to click on the

Starting off with E minor, we’re on the 19th fret of the 1st
string with our 4th finger and our 1st finger is on the 15th
fret of the 1st string. We’re going to do a downstroke and
then a pull-off. Now we go to the 17th fret of the 2nd string
with our 2nd finger and that’s an upstroke to the 16th fret
of the 3rd string, also as an upstroke. Then we’re going to
ascend back up. Then we’re going to stop on the 15th fret.

Now we’re going to shift down and we’re going to do
D major. Our 4th finger moves from the 19th fret to the
17th fret and our 1st finger on the 14th fret. Now we do
a downstroke, pull-off to the 15th fret of the 2nd string
as an upstroke and then the 14th fret of the 3rd string is
an upstroke. Then we’re going to ascend it back up and
stop on the 14th fret.

Now we’re going to shift that entire shape down a whole
step for C, do the exact same sequence, just now you’re
going to start on the 15th fret with your 4th finger and
the 12th fret with your 1st finger. So that entire first
sequence…

Now we’re going to move into the string skipping section.
Starting on the 14th fret of the 1st string with your 4th
finger you’re going to go 14 to the 12th fret with your
2nd finger, 11th fret with your 1st finger. Then you’re
going to do the exact same thing on the 3rd string. You’re
going to skip over the 2nd string. Now you’re going to go
to the 2nd string and you’re going to start on the 13th fret.
You’re going to go 13, 12, 10 and then you’re going to skip
the 3rd string and go to the 4th string and go 12, 10, 9.
That entire sequence…

Then, from there you’re going to do an E minor triad.
So you just played that 9 on the 4th string. You’re
going to go to 10 on the 5th string and then 12 on the
6th string. You might remember that from a previous lesson
I did on triads. Then you’re going to slide that note up
to the 15th fret. Now we’re going to do an E minor arpeggio
across all the strings, which normally would look like 12,
15, 14, 14, 12, 12, 12, 15. So coming from here…

Then, from there you will slide up to the 19th fret and
you’re going to descend the very first shape we did,
all the way back up. So descend it and then ascend it;
then, finally ending on the 24th fret of the 1st string.
Now if your guitar does not have 24 frets you can end on
the 22nd fret and just bend it up a whole step.

So the entire sequence, again, slowly.
