How To Learn To Play The Guitar Better

how_long.jpg

A lot of people have a desire to learn to play guitar, but few have the patience necessary to actually pursue it to any degree of success. This is because playing guitar isn’t something that can be done overnight. It takes years of practice to build the physical abilities and acquire the technical knowledge necessary to be a good guitar player.

Don’t let this discourage you, though. You don’t have to spend all that time learning before you can begin playing. How long does it tale to learn guitar? The answer varies from one person to the next, but the truth is, a lot of people can begin playing simple stuff after just a few weeks’ practice, with more complex songs and compositional skills coming later, as you add knowledge and develop techniques that allow you to progress as a player.

There are some specific approaches you can take to help you progress at a steady pace. Study is part of it, but you have to spend time practicing the actual playing part. Book knowledge is great, but nothing can advance your ability to play than actual playing can. Find a method that works for you, whether that method includes a personal teacher, books, or videos. Any of these methods are good, and any of them will help you learn to play guitar. The thing is, anybody can pick up one of these methods and learn something about playing guitar. What determines the pace at which you learn and how far you take it is the passion you have for the instrument, and for music in general. Passion will take you far in music, and at a faster pace than someone who has no passion.

I’m not saying books, a teacher, or videos won’t help. Of course they will. All knowledge is a good thing. Practice and playing in real-life situations is key, however, and passion will drive you to pick up your instrument and play every day. Passion will drive you to learn those scales and chords and to apply them to real-life musical endeavors like playing live or composing songs. The really neat thing is, the more of this stuff you do, the faster you will become better. It becomes one giant learning snowball that builds as it rolls down the hill, gathering momentum. That momentum will compel you to strive to be at the top of your game.

How long does it take to learn guitar? As long as you want it to take. Some guitar players say there is no end to the learning process, that there is always something new to learn. Your passion, if you have it, will drive you to accept the challenge of those new things. So how long does it take to learn guitar? Maybe a lifetime.
