Metal guitar teachers are teachers that specialize in metal. Since there are so many sub genres of metal today not all teachers will cover all of the sub genres. So before seeking out metal guitar teachers you may want to determine what style or sub genre you are interested in learning. The following are some of the different sub genres of metal.

*Traditional Metal: Started in the 1970’s with bands such as Alice Cooper and Black Sabbath, and Judas Priest. Later in 1980’s with bands like Motley Crue and Poison. *NU-Metal: In the later part of the 1990’s came NU Metal from bands such as Korn, Slipknot, and Disturbed. This style brought on a new lower and heavier sound due to the use of extreme drop tuning and 7 string guitars. Metal guitar teachers for this style could teach you; drop tunings, power chords, arpeggios, minor pentatonic scales, major scales, alternate picking and sweep picking.
*Post Hardcore: The mid 2000’s to present has brought on several new sub genres of Post Hardcore. These include; death core, grind core, and screamo. These styles share characteristics of thrash metal and NU-Metal including drop tunings and 7 and 8 string guitars. Metal guitar teachers for this genre could cover; drop tunings, arpeggios, power chords, major scales, minor pentatonic scales, sweep picking, alternate picking and palm muting.
Your best bet for finding good metal guitar teachers is an online search. You should be able to find teachers in your area, read reviews from past and present students and find the best teacher for the genre or sub genre you are interested in. Hopefully with a little luck and determination you can find that rare metal guitar teacher that teaches all or most of the sub genres of metal.
